7 WIDELY BELIEVED INDIAN MYTHS

7 WIDELY BELIEVED INDIAN MYTHS

Read this brief before you leap:

  • I got an inspiration from an article published in “THE WEEK” magazine to prepare this article . Indians are blindly digested some myths which doesn’t have even basic credibility.
  • This post is not to hurt any feelings.

1: HINDI IS India’s  NATIONAL LANGUAGE

  • Most often South Indians are taunted by north Indians for not knowing national language HINDI (Personally my North Indian friends does that many times to me ). But the fact is that constitution of India does not recognize Hindi as a national language yet .Many tried to put this issue in Parliament, but Hindi chauvinists continue to perpetuate this myth. Then what is the status of Hindi language in India ? “UNDER THE PROVISION MADE IN ARTICLE 343 OF THE CONSTITUTION,IT HAS THE STATUS OF OFFICIAL LANGUAGE. Then which is Indian’s national language?  The funny fact is that there is no single official language in India . There are 22 national languages listed in the 8th schedule Assamese,Bengali, Bodo, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Malayalam, Sindhi, Santhali, Oriya.

Observation was made by division bench of Chief Justice S.J. Mukhopadhaya and justice A.S. Dave recently that though majority of people in India have accepted Hindi as a national language, there was nothing on record to suggest that any provision has been made or order issued declaring Hindi as a national language of the country.

But still Hindi is the most widely speaking language in India.

2: Gandhiji SAID “HEY RAM” BEFORE LAST BREATH”?

  • It is widely believed that the Gandhi uttered  “HEY RAM”  before breathing his last, after Nathuram Godse shot him with his 9mm Beretta on jan 30th 1948. But there is no official records to conform this myth. Venkita his personal assistant recalled at a pres meeting that,  Gandhi did not utter a word after he shot dead. When we think in biologically terms  too, this myth is not acceptable, because he was 78 and his fasts made him too week and lean. From his dead body photos it is clear that there was no skin on his chest and sternum.

3: UDHAM SINGH ASSASSINATED GEN.DYER?

Who is Udham Singh?

  • Freedom fighter from Punjab. He had lost his brother in Jallianwala Bagh massacre(1919).

Who is General dyer?

  • Organizer of Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

  • Many websites (like www.euttaranchal.com) claims that gen.dyer is brutally killed by Udham singh ( Singh with revolver photos to his posted). But is it true?. Answer is a “A BIG NO“. It was not dyer whom Udham shot on march 13,1940. Dyer has died 13 years ago (He had suffered a stroke and doctors certified his dead body). He killed another man with similar sounding man. After that he didn’t tried to escape . He was arrested and hanged. But still Indians believe this myth..Let it be…Barth matha ki ja.

4: INDIA IS A POOR COUNTRY:

INDIA IS RICH BUT INDIANS ARE POOR

It is widely believed Mis-conception India is poor country ( poverty stricken country),But the reality is different.

  •  India is one of the richest countries in the World with a very strong economy. Indian economy today is the third Largest in the world after USA and China. I am not considering European Union , because they have a number of countries joined together.
  • The richest people in south-east Asia are found in India

5: KALAM FATHER OF INDIAN BOMB?

  • Kalma was an aeronautical engineer by training and was a rocket and missile scientist throughout his career. He made no bombs. He only made Missiles. But there exist a myth in India that he is the father of BOMB. The myth originated even before India conducted nuclear tests(1999). He honoured Barath Ratna ( Homi J  Bhabh got it before him first time) after that.Actually Kalam was in space department( Comprising missile and rocket engineering) and atomic department was a different cup of tea. But there were  exceptions VIKRAM SARABHAI and RAJA RAMANNA(who fashioned the first device that was tested in 1974) which head both department. So many scientists claim that RAMANNA should be called as FATHER OF INDIAN BOMB. Kalam did not himself claim to be the father of bomb. Actually Mulayam singh believed did it first. What ever be the controversy he should be followed by youngsters for a better India. But he is not the father of Indian bomb.

6:HINDUISM  IS A RELIGION :

  • Hinduism is a unique faith! The most obvious misconception about Hinduism is that we tend to see it as just another religion. To be precise, Hinduism is a way of life, a dharma. Dharma does not mean religion. It is the law that governs all action.

7: India is a Country :

  • India is a subcontinent actually ,though we take it as a country. This may include Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Burma.
  • India is a subcontinent because it was once connected to Antarctica, Australia and Africa. It is a tectonic plate section that has moved for over 200 million years through shifting its position. The subcontinent underwent separation and collision around 50 million years ago with Asia.
  • India is a subcontinent because it is a part of the Asian continent. Its landmass was not connected to the Asian continent plate and thus not part of it. India is regarded as the largest nation in South Asia and also known as the South Asian subcontinent.
