“Its in 2010, i lost my classmate and friend unexpectedly in his 22. After few days i checked his Orkut account and read his scraps,checked his photos,read his profile status very painfully and i found shouts of  his online friends without knowing his demise”  i sobbed alone  sitting in my room at Alepy,Kerala,India ,i still remember” during that time the digital media  dependency  was not that important as of now .But now the things are different ,no: of on-line users rate is  soaring daily .

So its high time to discuss about  “OUR SOCIAL ACCOUNTS AFTER WE DIE “

WHY SHOULD WE CARE ABOUT THIS SERIOUSLY NOW?

• There are Mean-spirited people — called trolls in the online world — they might take the opportunity to leave insulting or inflammatory comments on your page just to stir up trouble.And also try to hack out account. haha. yeah we should care even after we die.

Who guards your profile after you’re gone? Can someone request access to your accounts to act as custodian to your online presence?

Nowadays all celebrities take this platform to promote and market their niche business. And also they use this medium to reach their followers , interact with them and declare all the events instantly . Even print media and all other news systems follow celebrities tweets to publish instantly what they say.

• Recent demise of Indian union minister Shashi Tharoors wife “Sunanda pushkar” (Sunanda P Tharoor) shown us the intensity and role  of this micro blogging platform in celebrities life.  And also Paul walkers last tweet before that tragic event also widely publicized.

TWITTERS POLICY FOR DECEASED ONLINE ACCOUNT:

• Twitter will  Deactivate an account upon the request of an estate executor or a verified immediate family member once a copy of a death certificate and other pertinent information is provided.

2:FACEBOOK :

• Recently The late actor has reportedly left everything to his  only daughter Meadow Walker.He apparently left nothing to other family members or girlfriend Jasmine Pilchard-Gosnell, 23. But what about his social media accounts ???????

FACE-BOOKS POLICY FOR DECEASED ONLINE ACCOUNT:

• Memorial option:

First, the site enables profiles to be turned into  memorials (as a place where people can save and share their memories of those who’ve passed). The account is locked, but other users can still interact with the deceased’s profile by posting comments, photos and links.

The deceased user no longer showing up in the “Suggestions” box on the right-hand side of the homepage; the privacy setting is altered so that only confirmed friends can view the profile and search for it; contact information & status updates are removed; no one is able to log into the account in the future.

How to Do it :

• In order to memorialise deceased person’s account, a special contact form must be filled out. In this contact from, a proof of death must be provided, such as an obituary or news article. Both family members and non-family members are allowed to submit this form.

• The other option is to remove the account , upon special request by an immediate family member or executor.

3: GOOGLE ACCOUNTS (GMAIL, YOUTUBE, BLOGGER,DRIVE) :

• Google has recently established a new feature called “inactive account manager” ,which prompts users to decide the fate of their accounts should they die. If the account user does not make a selection, Google’s policies are pretty strict. It   warns survivors that obtaining access to a deceased person’s email account will be possible only “in rare cases.”.
• One benefit to having all of Google’s services tied into the same Google account is that, the company’s policies and procedures generally cover everything. Such is the case when a user passes away, it’s all handled centrally and concerned parties just need to go through the steps once in order to gain access to everything.
•  Google says it won’t delete the blog,  or anything at all of the deceased user until someone asks it to.
• “We just leave it as is unless someone was able to access it,” a Google spokesperson told
• If you don’t want them to remain, or if you need access to the person’s Gmail account for whatever reason, you must follow the  steps outlined in Googles help section . Again, you must be a lawful representative of the deceased (which means friends are out) and be able to provide proof of that authority. You must also include proof of death and a full e-mail header from the person in question to show that the person knew and was in contact with you.
• After that, Google needs 30 days to process the documents, but notes that a “valid third party court order or other appropriate legal process” will get you access sooner.

GOOGLES POLICY FOR DECEASED ONLINE ACCOUNTS:

4: MySpace:

• my space policy is much of robust than face book.
• In the case of a MySpace profile, a relative must contact MySpace via e-mail with proof of death and the user’s   My space ID number  (not username).
• “Unfortunately, we can’t let you access, edit, or delete any of the content or settings on the user’s profile yourself, but we’ll be sure to review and remove any content you find objectionable,” reads MySpace’s policy.

• Whoever manages to show proof of death won’t be able to access or edit the profile. This wouldn’t be so much of a problem if MySpace automatically made parts of the profile private like Facebook does; since it doesn’t, the next best policy would allow next of kin to remove things like phone numbers and e-mail addresses.
• This part of the policy is especially strange because of MySpace’s admission right on the policy page that anyone who has access to the deceased user’s e-mail account can use the “Forgot Password” link to retrieve it and then do whatever they want.

5: Dropbox

Dropbox does not have a specific policy for accounts of deceased people; the general Terms of Service[8] applies, it states that inactive accounts will be deleted after 90 days since the last login.
